Brake components seize long before they wear out in this climate. Salt and road grime bind caliper slide pins and pad hardware, so pads stop moving freely — which makes them wear unevenly, drag against the rotor, and squeal.
A brake service takes the wheels off, strips and cleans the caliper hardware, lubricates the slides and contact points, frees off the parking brake mechanism, and sets everything back to specification. It's the maintenance that keeps a brake job lasting as long as it should.

Common questions
What's the difference between brake service and brake repairs?
Brake service is maintenance — wheels off, calipers and hardware cleaned, slide pins lubricated, everything measured and adjusted. Brake repairs replace worn parts. Regular service is what stops pads seizing and rotors wearing unevenly in the first place.
How often do brakes need servicing?
Once a year is sensible here, ideally with your winter tire changeover while the wheels are already off. Road salt corrodes slide pins and hardware, and a seized caliper will destroy a set of pads and a rotor long before their time.
Why do my brakes squeal after sitting overnight?
A light film of surface rust on the rotors is normal after damp weather and wears off in the first few stops. Squealing that persists once you're driving is usually glazed pads, worn hardware, or a wear indicator telling you the pads are near their limit.
