MTO Safety Inspection

When a used vehicle changes ownership and is being plated, when a rebuilt vehicle is returning to the road, and when a vehicle is brought in from another province or imported. Your insurer or ServiceOntario will tell you if your situation needs one.

Thirty-six days from the date of inspection in Ontario, so don't have it done far in advance of the sale or the plating. It also certifies the vehicle's condition on that day only — it isn't a warranty.

You get an itemized list of every item that failed and a quote to correct them. You're free to have the work done elsewhere and come back for the re-inspection — there's no obligation to have us do the repairs.

The full provincial standard: brakes, steering and suspension, tires and wheels, lighting, glass and mirrors, structure and body condition, seatbelts, and the exhaust and fuel systems. It's a defined standard, not a judgment call.
