Signs you need this

  • Shifting feels harsh, delayed, or hunts between gears
  • Fluid is dark or smells burnt
  • You tow, or do a lot of stop-and-go city driving

Transmission fluid shears down and burns over time, and a worn-out fluid takes the transmission with it. A rebuild costs many times what a fluid service does.

The specification matters enormously here — substituting the wrong fluid is a well-known way to destroy a gearbox. We use what your manufacturer calls for, and replace the filter where the design has one.

Common questions

How often should transmission fluid be changed?

Check your owner's manual — intervals range from around 60,000 km to well over 100,000 km, and severe use like towing or heavy city traffic shortens them. Tell us your year, make, and model and we'll tell you what yours specifies.

Is transmission fluid really lifetime fluid?

Some manufacturers describe it that way, but fluid still shears down and oxidises with heat. In our experience a transmission that has had its fluid serviced outlasts one that hasn't, particularly on vehicles that tow or sit in stop-and-go traffic.

What are the signs my transmission fluid needs changing?

Harsh or delayed shifts, shuddering at light throttle, or a burnt smell to the fluid. Bring it in early — fluid changes are maintenance, transmission rebuilds are not.

Do you use the correct fluid for my transmission?

Yes, and it matters more here than almost anywhere else on the car. Modern automatics are specified to a particular fluid, and the wrong one causes shudder and premature wear even when it appears to work at first.
