Winter tires are worth having on before the first freeze, not after it. Below 7°C the rubber in an all-season hardens and grip falls off sharply.
Book early. The two weeks either side of the first freeze are the busiest of the year at every shop in the city, and we're closed weekends — so weekday slots go quickly in November.
This service is for tires already mounted on their own rims. If your tires need to come off one set of rims and go onto another, book a mount and balance instead. A brake and suspension inspection and TPMS reprogramming are available as add-ons at the same visit.
Common questions
When should I switch to winter tires?
Once daytime temperatures are consistently below 7°C — usually late October or early November in Toronto. Below that point all-season rubber hardens and loses grip, on dry pavement as well as snow.
Do I need winter tires in Toronto?
They're not mandatory in Ontario the way they are in Quebec, but they stop the car meaningfully shorter in cold weather and most insurers here offer a discount for running them. On ice and packed snow the difference is not subtle.
Should I buy a second set of rims?
If you can, yes. Swapping mounted sets is quicker and cheaper each season than dismounting and remounting tires twice a year, and it's easier on the tire beads and your TPMS sensors.
Why do I need to come back for a re-torque?
Wheels settle after they've been off, and the standard is to re-check the torque after about 100 km. It takes a few minutes, it's the difference between a wheel staying on and not, and we'd rather you came in.
